I received this email newsletter from my friend Tom Buford of Charge What You Deserve.com and thought that it was so brilliant and so important for those of us in the Virtual Assistance industry that I asked him permission to post it here. Tom is actually at Adam Urbanski’s Attract Client’s Like Crazy Boot Camp in California right now which is where I was also supposed to be, but with a heavy heart I had to cancel at the last minute. Adam has very graciously agreed to have me as a VIP guest at his next event and I am very grateful for that opportunity.

One of the great things about newsletters is that they can be written ahead of time and sent on a specific schedule. As I’m writing this it is Wednesday, December 3rd and you should be receiving it on Thursday the 4th. Right now I should be in Irvine, California for Adam Urbanski’s Attract Clients Like Crazy Boot Camp. I was a student of Adam’s at last year’s event and this year he invited me to be one of the speakers. What an honor. I’ll also be attending the entire 4 days to soak up as much incredible information as possible so I’m very excited.
One of the topics I’m going to talk about at the Boot Camp is creating multiple offers for your market. I mentioned this in a recent article, “What do Fee-Setting and Ice Cream Parlors have in Common?” and I had a lot of great feedback on that one so I’m going to share a series of articles that will spell out a few options
that you can consider offering your market.
You see, raising your fees isn’t about alienating your market. It’s about being paid what you WANT to be paid for your time and creating multiple options for your market to attract an even broader group of prospects.
One option to consider is offering email coaching or “paid for” email support for your clients. This isn’t about random response “when you have the time.” This is about creating a new program to offer your market that is time and cost effective. Email coaching can be incredibly powerful. It’s a win/win for you and your clients.
Here are a couple reasons why:
1. No set schedule so there’s tremendous flexibility.
2. Less expensive option to offer your market.
3. You have time to give a more thoughtful and insightful response.
I’m launching a new email coaching program at the event this weekend. This is a great way for people to get support from me and not have to take time out of their schedules for phone calls or have to invest quite as much as they would for private coaching. Nothing trumps private coaching in my book, but this is an
incredibly effective alternative.
Words of caution when creating an email coaching/consulting program.
1. Be careful about offering “unlimited” email support. You need to create some parameters. This is good for you and your clients. If they’re spending too much time emailing you then they’re soaking
up your time and they obviously aren’t putting things into action. As with any coaching or consulting program, there’s a time for support and there’s a time to go out and use the stuff!
2. Be realistic about how much time you’ll spend reading, thinking about and responding to each email. None of them will be exactly the same, but you should have a feel for how long the entire
process will take.
3. Charge accordingly. Email support doesn’t mean that you cut your typical fee in half. You’re still offering your time and expertise. Be sure to Charge What You Deserve!
If you’d like to learn more about my “You’ve Got Profits” email coaching program, just reply to this email and I’ll be happy to give you more details. I’m going to be launching it for a big discount this weekend. Of course, the offer will extend to you too! Right now, one month of email coaching is only $250 and I’ll be raising that price January 1st.
Remember that a “one-size fits all” business approach won’t be serving you or your market. With just a little bit of planning you can create multiple offers for your market to attract more people and allow you to begin charging what you deserve.
Cheers and Success
