I am both a Virtual Assistant, owner of a multi-VA firm and a Web Developer. Truthfully, I am probably a web developer at heart and absolutely love to sit down and spend many hours happily building a website. Or several. Sometimes simultaneously. There is something so intensely creative about that kind of work, that I find myself so enmeshed in the project that I forget to sleep.
We build a LOT of high-end WordPress Platform websites for our clients whose businesses are internet based. While we still build a large number of static html sites, those are typically best suited to clients who have a brick-and-mortar business and whose audience is generally local geographically.
The WordPress Platform websites that we are building for our online entrepreneur clients are increasingly including the fabulous WP Wishlist plugin which allows the client to have a tremendously flexible and powerful membership site up and running in no time at all.
Developer Stu McClaren recently put out this group of videos that demonstrates one type of membership site, but I feel certain that your imagination will catch fire as mine does each time I work with Wishlist.

Hi
I’m very tempted to try WordPress as I’ve heard lots of positive and informative feedback on Twitter, Facebook and on the VAnetworking.com forums. The forums especially give lots of insight about usability and cost etc. I think I might just try it out!
Hi Diane -
As you can probably tell from reading my blog posts, I am an ardent WordPress Platform fan. If your website is self-hosted you can easily install it and be up and running in no time at all. Your hosting company may already have a free install in your C-Panel. If not, you can go to http://wordpress.org and download the latest version. What I DON’T recommend is building your professional blog at http://wordpress.com/. You cannot add the necessary widgets and plugins that will make your blog go viral.
I recently interviewed WordPress Expert Ben Cope on my BlogTalkRadio show here: http://internetmasteryblog.com/wordpress-expert-ben-cope-interview-followup/
There is a lot of information in the two interviews that should help you.
Have a great day!

Hi Denise,
You sound like me – I could mess with this stuff for hours!
I have built html/css sites, but not WordPress. I have worked on client WordPress sites, however.
I’m thinking I need to delve deeper into it than I have in the past. As I have been a programmer for several years, what would you recommend for getting quickly up to speed on WordPress for someone with a programming background?
